The Millions More Movement was launched by a broad coalition of local, national and international African-American leaders to mark the commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Million Man March. The march, held on October 15, 2005 was open to men, women, and children and focused on creating lasting relationships between participating individuals, faith-based organizations, and community institutions. Why a Millions More Movement? It is the unity of our leadership and organizations. Our unity, the pooling of our resources, financially and intellectually will solve 95% of our problems. It is time for our leadership to stop thinking and acting solely on behalf of our churches, mosques, temples, synagogues and organizations. It is time for us as leaders to come together and begin to think, plan, and act on behalf of the whole of our people. Each leader has gradually come to the conclusion that no one organization or leader can solve the many problems we face. Each leader and organization has done the best it could working on its agenda and programs – yet, the masses are slipping further behind. Was this just another march? No. The word “Movement” means it is something that goes beyond one day. October 15th was the launching but the work continues. What are the Ministries of the Millions More Movement? The activities in Houston will mirror the Vision, Mission and Strategies of the National MMM Office, with a focus on local issues. Therefore, The Millions More Movement Houston is looking to work across the board with all entities for the success of all communities. To meet the challenges facing our communities in Houston and surrounding areas, the following ministries have been implemented:

What is the H-LOC? The Houston Local Organizing Committee (H-LOC) of the Millions More Movement is the official group that represents the mission, aims and program of the MMM in the city of Houston. The LOC is calling on all Houston Churches, grassroots organizations, businesses, community leaders, government officials, and individuals that support this effort to assist in the success of creating collaborative working committees around the challenges that have been identified in our communities. The Houston Local Organizing Committee (H-LOC) of the Millions Move Movement will develop agendas and take action towards mobilizing communities to maximize their power and create positive changes in their homes, neighborhoods, businesses, and politics, social and religious organizations. Also, hold accountable those that are fundamentally responsible for such concerns as safety, entrepreneurship, healthy lifestyles, and proactive legislation in the educational, political and criminal justice systems. What is the National Skills Bank? People across the city, country and the world are becoming a part of the Millions More Movement national skills bank. This skills bank is a developing network of the talents, skills and expertise of our people to be used towards the development of effective programs within each ministry to strategically address the issues and needs of our people. Spiritual & Moral Development We need to collect our spiritual leaders of Christianity, Islam, Judaism and other religions and develop a spiritual teaching that will transform our lives by renewing our minds, that we may destroy the Willie Lynch syndrome in Black people in America and throughout the World forever Ministry of Education We demand an end to substandard education in our community. The Millions More Movement is calling on all educators to provide a new educational paradigm. If our educators form themselves into a ministry, a service, then we will be able to educate our children and others and make a productive people. Ministry of Trade and Commerce Do you think that a Millions More Movement should not be involved in the development of Africa, the Caribbean and Central America? If we started feeding ourselves, the billions that we spend on food could be spent elsewhere. We need clothing and shelter. Our clothes and shoes are made in another country. If we pooled some of the money that we spend foolishly, we could set up factories in Africa and the Caribbean, where the labor market is a little cheaper than the labor here. If they made our clothes, then we could open up clothing stores all over America, sell them cheaper than the market, and then capture the market of the people. We need a Ministry of Trade and Commerce that can link the struggle here with Africa and the Caribbean, Central and South America Ministry of Agriculture The black farmers are suffering. We need to unite our black farmers, make their land productive and tie that land to the needs of the city. We must provide food for ourselves because the merchants of death are feeding the American people and they are tied to the pharmaceutical companies. We need a ministry of agriculture, because farming is the engine of every nation and we need to provide for ourselves the things that we consume. This will cause us want to build supermarkets in every city, canning factories so we can take it out from the ground, can it or freeze it, and put it into our own supermarkets. Ministry of Information Controlling our airwaves & informing the masses. There is an informational gap in our community. We need to provide a better means and way to get our people informed. We strive toward collective effort to unify the people that head up all the media outlets so that we can send our reporters wherever we want to investigate the truth. We do not wish to be subjected to the Associated Press, Reuter, and UPI or to the managed news of America and the world. We need to be where the action is so that our people will get it correct. Ministry of Arts and Culture People who are conscious & aware of whom they are have a responsibility of educating, and influencing children. They have accountability because they have a voice that people listen to and they are responsible for raising their consciousness higher from where they found it. We demand a greater accountability and responsibility of our artists, entertainers, industry personnel and executives, for them to commit to the redevelopment and upliftment of our people. We demand an end to the exploitation of our talent by outside forces. We will make strides in obtaining greater control over the means of production and distribution of our immense artistic talent and creative genius. Ministry of Health and Human Services The Millions More Movement will present a Preventive Health Care Plan to our people that will begin with a campaign to educate our people on healthy dietary and exercise habits. Ministry of Science & Technology We need to develop programs that will encourage our youth to enter the fields of science & technology. For these fields are essential to nation building. We must develop modern technologies to address the needs of the people. We need to provide streaming video to connect to places throughout the Diaspora. Ministry of Justice We demand an end to police brutality, mob attacks, racial profiling, the herding of our young men and women into prisons, and the biological and chemical warfare perpetrated against our people. Ministry of Defense Our young men are born soldiers, but they are in the wrong war. They are fighting a war in the streets of America against each other, or they are fighting an unjust war overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq. We need to bring our boys home and put them into the ministry of defense, so we can defend our communities rather than destroy our communities. |
